Banned Book Club

In Canada, Freedom To Read Week runs from February 21-27. Freedom to Read is when we celebrate the fact that we have just that.  All Canadians have the right to intellectual freedom - to freedom of both information and expression. Freedom to Read Week is both a celebration of that right and a "so-there" to those who would like to limit what we consume.

To celebrate, we will be doing a one-off, online-only Banned Book Club during the month of February. The selection is David Guterson's Snow Falling on Cedars, which has been banned in multiple locations in the United States as well as in Ontario - it was in fact #33 on the American Library Association's list of Banned Books from 2000-2009.

We'll be connecting as we read on Facebook (and on Discord if there is interest), then meeting for a final Zoom book club meeting on Saturday, February 27 (time TBA based on participants' availability).

Snow Falling on Cedars will be available to order by curbside (check the Book Bundle option and add the Banned Book Club book to the requests) or you can check it out straight from our eResource Hoopla without even leaving your house!
